Abstract. The cations distribution ratio was studied in two zonal soils developed on different high plain surfaces that belong to the depression of the river Tajo in the region of Madrid. According to Soil Taxonomy (USDA-SSS, 1999) one soil was classified as a Typic Palexeralf and the other one was classified as a Typic Haploxeralf (USDA-SSS, 1999); the first at 824 m over a raña surface in Valdeolmos, and the second at 786 m over a terrace of a tectonic fossil valley in Redueña. The values of the distribution ratio for the Typic Palexeralf were higher than Typic Haploxeralf which is in agreement with other pedological features like clay distribution, acidity and demineralisation of soil solution.
