Abstract
The influence of the temperature reached by the soil surface during
burning of bushes in “machambas” of the province of Cabo Delgado
(NE Mozambique) on the texture, and release of sand from the topmost surface
was studied. Such a temperature, which never exceeded 275 ºC, was found
to be too low to affect the proportion of sand, which confirms the importance
of the pH rise during the process.
Key words: Sand, soil temperature, “machamba”, haplic Ferralsol.
