Abstract
The sediment production and runoff is evaluated, during two years (1999-2000) in the talus of the terraces, in areas of intense subtropical fruit farming activity, in the South Eastern Spain region, with erosion plots, located in the own talus with a 16 m2 of area, in a mean slope of 65º (214%), to an altitude of 180 m. The research is determining the effectively of vegetal covers, in the control of the erosion and runoff, of the Thymus serpylloides ssp. Gadorensis and Salvia officinalis L., being reduced the runoff in 40 and 30 % respectively respect to a consisting of bare soil control, without natural vegetation.
The infiltration of the rainfall was increased by effect of the covers and
specially the conservation and protection of the terraces. The reduction of
the sediment production by effect of the Thymus and Salvia was of 63 and 54%
respectively, respect to the one of bare soil. The results obtained in the
present work show the important paper and the effectiveness of the vegetal
covers in the soil conservation in the
terraces, of the erosion its talus.
