A laboratory experiment was used to study the sewage sludges compost mineralization applied in mixture or in surface in two different soils. The soil type affected to the mineralization kinetic that was higher in a gypsum "natural" soil than a lime soil. The application form did not have significant effects on the mineralization speed in the lime soil (91 for mixture and 92 mg C-C02 g-' C for surface). However a high interaction took place between the application form and the soil type. In the gypsum soil the mixture accelerated the mineralization process (73 for mixture and 58 mg C-C02 g-1 C for surface). In consequence the attributable differences to the soil type were higher when the application was carried out in mixture that when this it was made in surface.
